Today was a long and strange day. 1. I'm so pumped about my new exercise routine that even though today was an off day, I was wanting to hit the gym. Plus, my thighs are sore from yesterday's workout. 2. From a mom claiming Tomball police arrested her for spanking her 15-year-old daughter to a woman's body found in Pinehurst, the news days has been silly and frightening - emotional even. 3. I don't like it when I go to a fast food restaurant and end up waiting for 15 minutes while the window server chit-chats with the driver in the vehicle in front of me even after he has paid and received his food. That just made my already long day, even longer.
Well, tomorrow will be a new day and all will be right in the world of Allen Jones again.

The Best Sports Shoe: Choosing the Right Athletic Footwear For Your Foot Type
I worked out today at Unique Physique and the topic of proper athletic shoes came up. It seems when you start working out and getting in shape, everyone around you wants to star working out their bodies, too. My mother asked me the other day to pick up a pair of aerobic shoes, some cheap ones from Walmart. I have no idea what aerobic shoes should look like. And it is no use asking a Walmart employee - trust me, I tried. A trainer at Unique Physique explained to me that you first have to make sure the shoe fits your foot - are you flat footed or do you have an arch. He also suggested looking at the sole of the shoe to see how flexible or rigid it is. He also suggested taking a wet foot test. I came across this blog site and thought it may guide you in picking out the best shoe for your workouts, regardless if it is in the gym, running or walking.

Hasbro and Discovery partner to create kids' TV channel - Los Angeles Times
I loved Hasbro toys as a child. I think this is a very smart move by Discovery. They will be able to spin-off a number of TV shows and cartoon based on the toy maker's products. Advertising, everything is in this day and age. I think this will be a great new station for children under 14.

I’m back in the gym aiming for that Greek god body
A number of people have stopped me at various community functions asking how my workouts are going. I was tracking them through weekly columns so that it may inspire others to get up off their butts and get healthy. I have to confess, however, that for the past four weeks, I have not lifted one ounce of weight.
I was showing great results with Infinity Fitness Inc. in Tomball and suggest you contact owner Aleata Oeser and consider getting into shape. She was a huge help for me getting some semblance of a human form.
This time, I thought I would try some other gyms that are in the Tomball and Magnolia areas. So, I headed over to Unique Physique which is located inside Salem Lutheran Church... it isn’t run by the church, however. The top floor space in the church’s newly constructed community center is being leased by the fitness chain.
What is cool about Unique Physique is that you can have a regular gym membership and workout almost any time of day or evening... until 9 or 9:30 at nigh I think. But you have options of having a one-on-one personal trainer, online training, nutritional guidance, trainer consultant services and I even noticed a flyer offering a healthy cooking class. The gym also offers group exercise sessions.
My first day back at the gym included my personal trainer, Seth McBryde, taking just about every measurement he could. I was surprised he didn’t measure my pinky finger. Then he measured my body fat and then tested my heart rate and checked my blood pressure. Then he simply put me on a treadmill and had me run for 30 minutes at 60 percent of my maximum heart rate.
Lets see, that was a Thursday. The very next day, Friday, was my first official day of one-on-one weight training.
The gym has this contraption that looks like it is from some horror movie’s torture chamber. You step inside and have a number of bars you can hang from, prop you legs up on in angles you didn’t know existed, and simply stretch out your muscles.
Next it was back to pumping me up into the Greek god I aim to be with strength training. It was very similar to what I went through over at Infinity Fitness but having been away from it for so long, as I write this column on Sunday, my biceps, shoulders, chest and abs feel as though I bounced my way down from the highest peek of mount Everest but lived to tell about it.
Honestly, it feels good to be workout sore again. I walk around with more confidence as if my muscles are massively huge... they aren’t, but they sure feel that way.
I am so sore, I may need a medic on standby for my next training session on Monday. I will be working out three times a week, as I did at Infinity Fitness.
A tip I learned from my Unique Physique trainer, Seth, is that after a workout it is good to eat fruits like oranges, bananas, pineapple, and such that have natural sugar. It is better than a Red Bull energy drink as the natural sugar is better for your body and it will help prevent that worn out feeling after a hard workout.
He also suggested after a work out I have a whey protein shake - possibly as a meal replacement. Not to lose weight or any thing, but to feed my muscles the nutrients they need to help them grow bigger and stronger. So, I stopped by Smoothy King after the workout for a Power Punch Workout Shake and it had everything in it Seth recommended and I added whey protein powder to it... just ask them to add it and they will for an extra charge.
At work I was able to sip on that huge shake the remainder of the day and I was pumped for work. Full of energy. Thanks for the tip, Seth.
Oh, and one last thing that is pretty cool about Unique Physique, you get your own online page which you can log in your exercises and your trainer posts your exercise program in case you want to do a routine on your own. Don’t know how to perform an exercise? Not to worry, they have short web videos that show you how. And, you can log in your meals each day so a nutritionist can determine if you are on the right track in relation to your body goals. Mine is to beef up. Others may have goals to lose weight. So, the nutrition tips are designed for you.
Anyway, I’m back in the saddle, so-to-speak. If you see me, please don’t ask to feel my muscles as even touching them hurts.
